M-Tray® was designed and developed by Wallbarn with sustainability as its core principle. From the sourcing of materials to end-of-life recyclability, every element of the system has been carefully engineered to minimise waste, reduce environmental impact, and provide lasting ecological value.

• Made in the UK: The plastic tray is manufactured from 100% recycled polypropylene in Manchester, England.
• Fully recyclable: The polypropylene trays are injection moulded using premium recycled material and can be recycled again at end of life.
• Clean-fill substrate: Lightweight, high-performance growing medium made from recycled aggregates, PAS 100-certified compost is made from manure and pulp from discarded herb and plant extracts from neighbouring farms. This creates the lowest carbon miles possible.
• Minimal waste on site: Pre-planted modules are delivered ready to install, eliminating the mess and logistics of traditional roll-out systems.

Each tray is grown and matured for a minimum of twelve months at our dedicated nursery in Basingstoke before being delivered to site, fully rooted and flowering for instant visual and ecological impact.

M-Tray® modules are 500mm x 500mm, lightweight, and designed for single-person handling. They click together seamlessly, forming an instant green roof with minimal disruption and no mess. Installation can be completed in hard-to-reach areas where traditional roll-out systems fail—such as single-storey extensions, hotels, and tight urban sites.

• Fully accessible and easily liftable for future inspection or repairs

Should the system ever need to be removed, trays can be uplifted, palletised, and cleared in hours and re-used. If the green roof is to be dismantled all materials can easily be reclaimed or recycled. This makes M-Tray® not just sustainable in concept, but circular by design.
