WELCOME to our Bee Fayre – a very special 2 day event to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the publication of Charles Butler’s landmark beekeeping book: ‘The Feminine Monarchie’ in 1623. A legacy which continues to be relevant and taught to beekeepers worldwide today.
Our Celebrations of Charles Butler 400th anniversary tell the complete bee story, across all age groups. We combine telling the ‘bee story’ inside the church with presentations and workshops, and outside in the Church Meadows with specialists, beekeepers, and stall-holders to help everyone understand the need to create a sustainable environment for bees to thrive.
What makes Charles Butler stand out is his use of patient observations to record the craft of beekeeping and the sounds of honey bees. His Feminine Monarchie book highlights how the hive hierarchy, the honeycomb geometry, bees and music reveal a divine order of nature. His legacy is still revered worldwide and his teachings remain an integral part of modern beekeeping. It is of no surprise that his daughter married into the Gilbert White family. We are pleased to be welcoming The Gilbert White Museum as a stall-holder. And international early music vocal ensemble Stile Antico are coming especially to perform the Charles Butler Bee Madrigal
Our Charles Butler Bee Fayre Celebrations are all about bringing together local communities, with beekeepers sharing their knowledge, along with rural crafts and Family fun. Do come for a memorable day out and meet and share with beekeepers their love of bees, honey, beeswax, and proven medical therapies.
Your support will enable us to make contributions to our nominated causes: Bees Abroad, Friends of St Lawrence, and Charles Butler Foundation.
