Our gravel excluders are available in plastic for use in circular drain connectors and roof outlets where the area is covered with a gravel or pebble layer (such as border edges or shingle ballast in an inverted roof system).

Made from polypropylene, they consist of a sturdy cage on the top with strong sidebars and slats for the water to drain through.

We have two main designs: the Helix spoke (with three wide spokes) and the Spider fitting (with an angled four-spoke design). Both these designs allow for installers to trim the spokes back easily using a sharp knife to fit the diameter of the outlet holes perfectly.

The Sombra gravel excluder is suitable cover for outlets that have a diameter up to 180mm and are particularly ideal for use on green roofs, when surrounded by pebbles, up to a height of 150mm.

Our excluders come in zinc-plated iron, copper, stainless steel and plastic, and fit into all designs of circular/downpipe outlets and connectors and are compatible with all different manufactured materials.

They are designed with 12 rods at the bottom which have a slightly serrated edge, so that the leaf guard can be inserted into the hole and the edges will grip onto the inside of the drain connector or outlet, which has a series of small ridges around the inside rim of the shaft.

They are UV resistant and will withstand all normal chemicals in the atmosphere.

They can be fitted onto TPE, EPDM or PVC outlets easily without the need for fixings or bonding and can be removed and re-used without issue.

It is important to check the leaf excluders regularly and clean out the area around them.

Made from a durable and hardwearing plastic compound, they fit securely into the mouth of the hole without the need for fixings or adhesive.

For right-angle faced outlets, both those with the square shaped mouth and those with the circular spigot, this RIGHT ANGLED SQUARE LEAF GUARD is ideal. The leaf guard has two prongs which will grip the inside of the spigot to ensure a good fit.

Although the square leaf guards are designed with straight sides, they can be used for both types of through-wall outlet – those with the right-angled face and those with the 45° angled face and mouth.

For those outlets with a fillet-type angle around the mouth, the side arms can be cut with a sharp blade to create the 45° angle, giving a correct fitting. As these leaf guards are manufactured from plastic, they can easily be trimmed to alter the shape or reduce the size without affecting their performance.

Couplings manufactured with a square mouth one side are designed for use where the through-wall outlet is connected via a right angle to a rounded drainpipe. The square shaped spigot (such as the unit found on pages PVC corner / parapet / through wall outlets and Corner / Parapet / Through Wall Outlets In EPDM For Mechanical Fixing) is placed inside the square mouth of the coupling and the rounded downpipe section is fitted inside the HDPE pipe. A jubilee clip can be used around the drainpipe to give a secure fit.

Through-wall roof outlets (such as those found on page TPE Circular / Downpipe Outlets With Perforated Flange) installed either vertically or horizontally can be fitted to the HDPE drainpipe using the right angled “elbow” coupling connector.

A straight coupling is available for fixing a Wallbarn outlet with a round spigot to a round HDPE drainage pipe when the drainpipe is going in the same direction.

These can be used for through-wall outlets which have a round spigit (such as units on page PVC Corner / Parapet / Through Wall Outlets) and also downpipe and circular drainage outlets (such as units on page EPDM Circular / Downpipe Outlets With Perforated Flange)

The spigot again fits inside the coupling and additional secure fit can be achieved by tightening a jubilee clip around the outside.

These clips or bands are manufactured in stainless steel AISI 304 to secure the collars manufactured in TPE or PVC onto the foul air pipes emitting from the roof or deck.

They are a regular, simple design with the size of the band and the force of the clamp easily adjusted by turning the mechanism with a screw.
