Superior Quality Hardwood Decking Tiles Available

    January 19th, 2017

As well as our range of DUROExcellence decking boards, Wallbarn also supply a full range of hardwood decking tiles. These decking tiles are designed to be to safeguard against false economy.

    Avoiding False Economy

Whilst cheaper options do exist, if you have to replace boards within just a few years, you are highly likely to have to spend far more money in the long term. Our range of hardwoods are extremely hard and durable – perfect for long lasting decking.

    Ideal For British Climate

Wallbarn selects timber of the highest quality. All species are extremely tough, will not absorb water, rot or become covered with fungus or mildew – ideal for the British weather. The tiles are manufactured to the highest quality; with the timber being kiln dried and the tiles are fixed together with rust-proof screws and an extra plank of wood on the underside to reinforce the tile. They are all treated with natural oil lacquer.

    Benefits of Hardwood Timber Decking

All our timber possess the following:-

    •  Are ultra-hard and dense
    •  Are long lasting
    •  Are resistant to moisture ingress and rotting
    •  Have smooth grains that are unlikely to splinter or scratch on the surface
    •  Are resistant to insect and mildew damage
    •  Are strong and weight bearing.

    Different Species Available

We have a number of different species available, both as stock items and non-standard material for specific projects. The main types of timber used are:-

    • Ipe from Brazil is one of the toughest most durable woods available. It has a greenish brown appearance and because of its tight grain is recognised for its high resistance to mildew, termites and rotting. It is very low maintenance and is used extensively in marine and exterior construction due to its resistance to water. It dries very well and becomes extremely hard, which means it has to be pre-drilled and cut with a mechanical saw. It carries a Class A fire rating and will last well over 25 years. It is nicknamed “ironwood”.
    • Sucupira is also from Brazil and is again is extremely hardwearing timber. Chestnut coloured, it is a little more course in the grain than ipe and is a little less strong, but is still ideal for external decking in the UK climate and will last for 20 years.
    • Cumaru is another hardwearing timber from Brazil. It is similar to ipe and sucupira and has a rich chestnut colour. It has very good strength and rot-resistant properties, but is not as resistant to insect damage as the ipe. It is an ideal timber where clients favour a lighter-coloured wood finish.

Further timber is also available as non-stock items, including:-

    • Green Heart, a very tough moisture resistant timber from Surinam. It has a yellowish colour.
    • Garapa has slightly lower mechanical properties but is still a long lasting, hardwearing timber with a slightly yellowish, beige colour, which will last for over 15 years.
    • Massaranduba is light red, similar in colour to cedar. It is a slightly softer timber but has a very attractive finish.
